Install multiply Internet Explorer versions with Collection

Internet Explorer Cross-browser compatibility is one of the most flaming issues in web development (for everyone from professionals to bloggers tweaking themes).

Internet Explorer is often (but honestly not always) main source of issues. If properly updated Windows tries to install latest stable version of it. That can actually make harder to look into issues that only show on earlier versions.

Internet Explorer Collection is bundle that installs multiply IE versions at the same time.

What it does

Internet Explorer Collection is more of installation package than actual software. It comes as single setup executable that installs multiply Internet Explorer versions from 1 to 8 (you can select which exactly you need) as long as they are compatible with Windows version you are using.

Strong features

  • run different versions at the same time;
  • installs separately, doesn’t affect native IE;
  • comes with developer toolbar;
  • actively updated with latest version compatible with everything up to Windows 7.

Overall

Probably easiest way to have several IE versions installed for testing purposes and also stays away from system files.

    Hey, Have you tried xenocode.com, there you can try 2 of the many IE browsers, without the need to download them. All you do is go to the website and install a little add on, that's it. There are also other browsers available. Some of them consist of: Chrome Firefox 2 and Firefox 3 Opera Safari

    @jc4life05 I had briefly tried Xenocode but it is both idea I don't really get and it crashed on me few times. I am not a big believer in web apps (from speed and stability viewpoint) so for my taste local installation of browser is best variant. Microsoft made that hard (typical) but fortunately solutions such as subj Collection fix that. :)

    good information but the million dollar qs is why should one install multiple versions of internet explorer
  • Rarst #

    @sunkumarspace To ensure that site/blog/whatever looks and renders properly in those IE versions you want to support. Collection site states that under no circumstances IE should be used to actually browse web (and I completely agree) :) It's bundle for web developers.

    So, did it work for you ? Any problems ? I’m working on a browser screenshot application and as I rely on IE collection it is interesting to check user inputs. Thanks.

    @Vasya I had since some issues with it interfering with native IE, not so contained after all. Fixed by upgrading to the latest version of collection.

    @Vasya I am not much interested. I mostly use collection to check this blog in few major versions of IE to ensure it renders fine. Have no real need for automated screenshot routine. You'd be better asking people who do design and development for a living.

    IE Collection is fine! I've tried other stuff like IE Tester or a Virtual Machine, but I've noticed that the IE6 browser inside the collection is very accurate. I can't recommend it enough. Great for testing.

    Wow I'll test this right away. I always had some other version or something, don't remember the name. But it won't install on my current notebook. So I hope this one does!
